Avidyne Announces First-Ever Installation of IFD550 by Murfreesboro Aviation
MU-2 Installation of innovative new IFD550 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM with integrated ARS, Synthetic Vision and Wx Radar.
Melbourne, FL – Tuesday, March 28, 2017 –
Avidyne Corporation today announced that installation and delivery of the first IFD550 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM with Attitude Reference Sensor (ARS) has been completed by Murfreesboro Aviation in Tennessee (BoroAv.com), in a Mitsubishi MU-2.
“This particular MU-2 owner wanted to upgrade to the latest in touch-screen WAAS GPS capability and ADS-B, so we recommended the newly-certified IFD550,” said Jim Gardner, Owner of Murfreesboro Aviation. “The IFD550 has a nice big touch-screen display with gorgeous Synthetic Vision views of nearby terrain, obstacles, and traffic. It’s a great piece of gear.”
“I chose the IFD550 because I just loved its powerful FMS capability. And with it having touch screen and dedicated buttons, I found it to be much easier to use than the touch-only boxes on the market. Because it has integrated Wireless plus 3D Synthetic Vision and attitude display capability, I found it to be a very easy decision,” said MU-2 owner Sean Reininger. “The guys at Murfreesboro Aviation really understood what I wanted and recommending the IFD550 was the perfect fit! I can’t wait to get out there and fly with it.”
“Our new flagship IFD550 provides a unique combination of performance and safety features that make it a perfect fit in high-flying, high-performance aircraft like the MU-2,” said Mitch Biggs, Avidyne’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “It’s really a terrific product and there’s simply nothing else like it.”
This first IFD550 installation also included an Avidyne EX600 multifunction display (MFD), an AXP322 remote-mounted ADS-B transponder, and a full-featured AMX240 audio selector panel with 6-place voice-activated intercom and Bluetooth interface.
About the IFD550
The newly-certified IFD550 is a full-featured FMS/GPS/NAV/COM with all the same LPV GPS, VHF navigation, and VHF communication functionality of Avidyne’s current IFD540, but with the addition of an integrated Attitude Reference Sensor (ARS). The ARS detects Pitch and Roll motion and enables the display of dynamic Synthetic Vision (SVS) with full-motion three-dimensional “out-the-window” views as well as exocentric “in-trail” views of the aircraft and nearby terrain, obstacles, traffic and terrain. The IFD550 also gives pilots the ability to toggle SVS off and view a traditional blue-over-brown attitude display, as well as overlay of Horizontal and Vertical Deviation Indicators, a Total Velocity Vector (TVV)/Flight Path Marker, and adjustable field of regard. IFD550 options include weather radar interface to the BK RDR2000 line, as well as RS-170 video input and display capability.

The IFD550 with ARS and Synthetic Vision is available now starting at $21,999.
