Avidyne Corporation is announcing a new family of active traffic advisory systems for general aviation aircraft ranging from entry-level single-engine piston to twin-engine turboprops. Avidyne is expanding the market place for traffic by offering lower cost active traffic solutions to owners of light GA aircraft.

The initial three systems in the Avidyne TAS family with Ryan Active Surveillance are the:

  • TAS600 Active Traffic Sensor is priced at $9,990 and recommended for entry-level, single-engine piston aircraft. It features a 7nm range, a 3,500-foot vertical separation maximum and 18,500-foot service ceiling.

TAS600 Area

Each system includes Ryan’s technologically advanced features for superior performance not found on competing systems. The TAS600’s Heads-Up Audible Position Alerting™ verbally indicates target bearing, range and relative altitude for rapid visual acquisition of traffic in busy terminal areas. The system displays traffic N-numbers on Avidyne displays to make it easier to identify specific targets. Patented top and bottom antennas enable faster updates and provide improved performance over single-antenna systems.

The Avidyne TAS600 Series Traffic Sensors show standard TCAS symbology on display systems from 15 different manufacturers including Avidyne’s Entegra and EX-Series MFDs, Garmin’s G1000 and 400/500-series, as well as displays from Honeywell, Collins, Chelton, Sandel, and others. The TSO C147-certified Avidyne TAS600 Series Traffic Sensors are FAA approved and available now.

Tips & Techniques

XM Datalink Weather Refresh

Due to security software built into the Heads-Up datalink receiver, the XM datalink subscription may revert to Activate mode after a period of time between 3 months to 9 months. When this occurs XM datalink weather will not be received by the Heads-Up receiver or displayed on the EX500. If this occurs, you will need to refresh your subscription in order to continue to receive XM datalink weather. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience, and are working with Heads-Up to mitigate this issue.

Steps to refresh your XM datalink subscription:

  • Write down your Heads-Up receiver serial number. If you don’t already have this number, you can locate it on the trip page of your EX500 by pressing the Display button until you see the status for your broadcast weather. See below.
  • Visit www.xmradio.com/refresh, and enter your Heads-Up receiver serial number. Press submit.
  • XM Radio will activate your receiver by sending a unique activation code to your receiver for 24 hours after your refresh request. Move your aircraft outside and power on the EX500 and receiver or go flying within the following 24-hour period. When your receiver receives the activation code the EX500 will display the weather data and it will indicate the XM weather service you purchased as the Service Level on the Trip Page. You will now continue to receive your XM datalink weather as normal.

Important Note: Jeppesen Approach Plates expire every two weeks. Ten weeks after the expiration date, CMax will be unable to display the out-dated charts, so its important to keep your Jeppesen/CMax subscription up to date.
