Avidyne and CMC Partner to Deliver Worldwide Satellite Datalink Weather on Electronic Flight Bag Displays
Esterline CMC’s Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) support worldwide weather, moving map, trip planning and text messaging with Avidyne MLX770 Iridium-based Datalink System.
Geneva – Tuesday, May 4, 2010 –
Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated flight deck and safety systems for general and business aviation aircraft, announced today that they have partnered with Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) to deliver worldwide datalink graphical weather and text messaging using Avidyne’s MLX770 Iridium®-based datalink transceiver and CMC’s PilotView 8.4 inch CMA-1100 MkII and 10.4 inch CMA-1410 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) products.
CMC EFBs, interfaced with the Avidyne MLX770, can now have access to real-time graphical and textual weather and datalink radar. The datalink weather products will be accessed from Avidyne’s network operations center. Graphical radar data is presently available in Europe and Australia, as well as in North America. Avidyne also provides worldwide Winds and Temps Aloft, Lightning, METARS/TAFS and Satellite Infra-Red. The hardware adds approximately four pounds to a CMC EFB installation and provides a wealth of all-weather capability, as well as text messaging and flight tracking ability.
“We are pleased to be partnered with CMC as we continue to grow our MLX product reach into the Part 25 market,” said Patrick Herguth, Avidyne’s Chief Operating Officer. “Pilots in this market will really appreciate the ability to access worldwide datalink weather right from their EFBs.”
“Adding EFB support for our MLX series of datalink transceivers is in line with our strategy to make our safety-enhancing products available to a wider market,” said Avidyne president Dan Schwinn. “Avidyne is all about making avionics that are simpler and easier to use, which equates to making flying safer, and this partnership extends our easy-to-use MFD pilot interface and our industry-leading safety sensor technology to business-class aircraft operators around the world.”
