Reports to the Vice President of Operations. Responsible for establishing and implementing company-wide quality policies and procedures. Provides guidance to the organization regarding compliance to domestic and international regulatory requirements. Assures product that is produced and serviced meets all applicable performance and workmanship requirements. Serves as company representative when dealing with the FAA for quality, service and field related issues.


The Director of Quality Assurance will lead a quality organization that is responsible for, but not limited to the following areas:

  • Provides regulatory support and FAA delegated airworthiness inspections. Provide engineering support in procedural development and corrective action development
  • Plan and Direct the inspection and calibration processes.
  • Hires, trains and completes performance assessments on quality inspector personnel. 
  • Develop and implement manufacturing quality improvements and Lean Manufacturing principles across the organization.
  • Develop and manage customer or product specific quality plans
  • Develop and publish PFMEAs.
  • Analyze process, product, and component performances to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Provide weekly Management level reports and analysis on customer and process level Quality data and information.
  • Provide technical assistance on customer product specifications such as quality goals, assembly requirements and product performance criteria.
  • Implement statistical process controls.
  • Participate in developing and establishing ISO 9001 and AS9011 internal equivalent controls.
  • Conduct FAA delegated inspections for export airworthiness approvals and conformity inspections.
  • Develop & provide quality support to the production processes.
  • Provide procedural/system training to QA inspectors, Operations and entry level Engineers.
  • Assist operators / technicians with failure reporting methods.
  • Lead quality teams in an effort to drive high product quality and continuous improvement and increased customer satisfaction.
  • Manage, analyze and publish Quality Assurance Performance Reports for assigned projects including process yields, defect / root cause pareto analyses and associated corrective actions.
  • Review quality and product data to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Generate and publish corrective action requests to suppliers and internal customers. 
  • Manage the criteria and procedures for equipment calibration and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Perform Internal Quality Audits.
  • Leads failure and supplier analysis efforts on systemic non-conformances and field returns implementing appropriate corrective action.
  • Generate procedures, process alerts, deviations, purges, and other process documentation.
  • Lead the MRB review and disposition process and publish results.
  • Recommend DFM or DFT analysis for quality improvement and cost reduction.
  • Facilitate ECO implementation providing analysis, approval, and verification.
  • Provide NPI and FAI support to the product team, suppliers and customers.
  • Occasional travel between company, customer, or supplier facilities.
  • Analyze field performance data for quality/ failure trends and identifies correctives actions.
  • Other responsibilities as directed and necessary for the business.

Skills and Core Competencies:

  • Ability to plan and direct quality /inspection activities.
  • Ability to independently develop and manage cross-functional continuous improvement activities.
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical methods.
  • Background in a medium to high volume system level, assembly, and/or manufacturing environment including electrical, mechanical, and/or PCA components.
  • Technical knowledge in quality, manufacturing or process engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • PC Skills in database and data analysis systems.
  • Configuration control system factory implementation

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BS Degree in electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering discipline
  • Seven to ten years in managing quality, process, and/or supplier engineering
  • Seven to ten years working within an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
  • Seven to ten years in AS9100 Quality System requirements.
  • Five years Aviation Quality System experience to include: direct responsibility of FAA regulations in support of TSO, PMA and STC projects and 14 CFR 145 Repair Station
  • ERP System knowledge (Oracle preferred)

Desired Skills:

  • 6 Sigma Green or Black Belt
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer/Auditor
  • ISO/AS9100 auditor certification
  • FAA DMIR certification
